A well-established top-flight side for much of the 1980s, the 1986-87 season saw Watford achieve a 9th placed League finish as well as reach the Semi-Final of the FA Cup.

The season was to be the last of Graham Taylor’s 11-year first spell at Watford, where he took the club from the Fourth Division to the First, finishing league runners-up in their first top-flight season and reaching the FA Cup final in their second.

This also proved to be legend John Barnes' final season for Watford after departing for Liverpool in the summer of 1987.
