Suriname WC Qualification Update |

Stage 3 of the World Cup 2010 qualifiction seems to be the end of Suriname's world cup dream after heavy defeats against Costa Rica and El Salvador. Three more matches are remaining and the next game is on the 11th of October against groups favourite Costa Rica.
The Suriname team is also competing in the Caribean Championshop where they will meet Cuba, Netherlands Antilles and Barbados in a tournament in Cuba starting end of October. |

Haiti - Suriname |

Suriname has started with a 2-2 draw in the away match against Haiti. The first qualification match of stage 3 started out well for Suriname. At half time the team had a 0-2 lead, both goals scored by Wensley Christoph. Despite heavy pressure from Haiti the second half looked promising as well until the 90th minute when Haiti scored 1-2. In the 95th minute Haiti was awarded a penalty. The penalty was saved by goalkeeper Ronny Aloema, but the rebound was scored by Haiti. The 2-2 score was also the end of the match. The next match will be played at the 6th of September in Costa Rica. |

Guyana - Suriname |

Suriname has beaten Guyana in the away match by 1-2 and has reached stage 3 of the World Cup qualification. This is a great result for the Suriname team as Guyana used professional players in the matches while Suriname is depending on local players without any professional background. For a matchreport click on this link. Suriname will now face Haiti, Costa Rica and El Salvador in the next group stage. These 6 matches will be played from August untill November 2008 in which the 2 best teams will qualify for stage 4. |

Suriname has beaten Guyana by 1-0 in the first match in stage 2 for the 2010 South Africa World Cup qualification. The only goal was scored by Clifton Sandvliet in the second half of the match that was dominated by the Suirname team. For a matchreport click on following link. The away match will be played the 22nd of June in Georgetown Guyana. |
