One of the sport's most celebrated goalkeepers wearing one of the game's most iconic shirts - Lev Yashin and his distinctive all-black jersey defined goalkeeping in the 1950s and 1960s. Yashin was the Soviet Union's irreplaceable first choice number one from the mid 50s through to the 1966 World Cup with his career highlight coming in 1960 as he led his side to European Nations Cup success. So sizeable a shadow did Yashin cast over the Soviet game that few remember players like Vladimir Maslachenko, Sergo Kotrikadze, Ramaz Urushadze, Anzor Kavazashvili or Viktor Bannikov; all keepers who served at 1960s international tournaments as deputies to the Black Spider.
