As football slowly recovered from the disruption of war, the shortened 1945-46 Italian season was structured initially on a regional basis with the highest-placed clubs advancing to an eight team national League play-off. AS Roma contested the Central and Southern Group and finished the eleven-team division a point behind Napoli and Bari in third place, still good enough to advance them to the next stage. Not even the goals of the ever-prolific Amedeo Amadei, the Albanian Naim Kryeziu and young Italian Utrillo could make much headway for the club from the capital in the next stage however. The northern Italian giants dominated leaving Roma to finish down in sixth place in the eight team League.
