The 1993/94 season was a demanding one for the Bluebirds as they returned to the third tier of the Football League following their glorious promotion under Eddie May the previous spring. This City side scored freely but had to battle towards the bottom, eventually finishing in nineteenth spot and two points clear of the drop.

New striker Phil Stant enjoyed a fine campaign having signed the previous winter from Mansfield Town. His 21 goals played a big part in keeping City up come May, whilst a burgeoning partnership with youngster Nathan Blake was showing plenty of promise.

It was Blake’s FA Cup fourth round stunner against top-flight Manchester City that proved the highlight of the season – and indeed one of the club’s most memorable moments in the modern era.
