After a painful seven-decade wait, Hibernian finally won their first major trophy since a Scottish Cup success way back in 1902. This League Cup win also marked their first-ever trophy success at Hampden Park.

The Edinburgh side overcame Dundee United, Airdrie and Rangers to earn a Final date with a Celtic side that dominated the Scottish game at the time, but it was Eddie Turnbull's young side that came home with the trophy against the odds.

Two goals in six second half minutes from Pat Stanton and Jimmy O’Rourke put Hibs into a decisive lead while Celtic could only manage a single reply through Kenny Dalglish.
