Raith Rovers enjoyed the 1994-95 season perhaps more than any other in the club’s long history. Newly relegated to the second tier, the Kirkcaldy club confounded all expectations by reaching the final of the Scottish League Cup.

With Celtic standing in their way, Jimmy Nicholl’s team were very much the underdogs, even when Stevie Crawford gave them a surprise 19th minute lead. The Glasgow giants battled back in the second half with two goals, but still Raith weren’t finished and record scorer Gordon Dalziel nodded an equaliser with just four minutes remaining to keep the dream alive.

Penalties followed an uneventful extra time period, where Raith held their nerve in the shoot-out to win 6-5 on penalties and lift their first major trophy. The club went on to clinch the First Division title later in the season, completing a unique Double.
