The Brussels giants Anderlecht enjoyed a fine decade during the 1970s which was no surprise considering the wealth of talent turning out every week in those famous mauve and white strips.

Belgian stars like Paul Van Himst, Franky Vercauteren, Hugo Broos, Ludo Coeck and Francois Van der Elst played alongside Dutch internationals like Arie Haan, Jan Ruiter and most significantly, the brilliant Rob Rensenbrink.

The Dutch star joined Anderlecht in 1971 and spent nine seasons at the club, dazzling on the wing or as a second striker. During his time in the Belgian capital he scored 20 plus goals every year between 1972 and 1978 and was the inspiration behind two Belgian title wins, four Belgian Cup successes and Cup Winners Cup victories in both 1976 and 1978 - indeed Rensenbrink is that competition’s highest ever scorer with 25 goals.
