The current version of Toulouse FC as we recognise it was formed in 1970 and reached Ligue 1 for the first time in 1982. That debut season saw the club consolidate in mid table and fed an ambitious recruitment campaign in the summer of 1983 raising both playing quality and the levels of expectation.

A strong 83-84 campaign resulted in a fifth placed finish for TFC, just two points adrift of European qualification. While the more established Gérald Soler finished as the club’s top scorer in the League with 11 goals, the newcomers all made admirable contributions too: Laurent Roussey and Guy Lacombe caught the eye in attack, midfielder Lucien Favre scored 7 goals in his solitary season with the club, former Lille keeper Philippe Bergerôo brought reliability to the rearguard as did the impressive Jean-François Domergue, a talented defender also very capable of contributing goals at the other end of the field.
