The climax to the 1993-94 season brought major change for Nottingham Forest - relegation from the top flight and the retirement of their long-serving and legendary manager, Brian Clough.

Frank Clark, a former player and left-back in the club’s European Cup-winning days, took over and brought about an immediate upturn in fortunes. With new signings like Stan Collymore, Colin Cooper and David Phillips settling quickly, Forest shrugged off a poor start to the 1993-94 season to improve and lose just three League games after early November.

Promotion was achieved as Division 1 runners-up and the fine form continued into their Premiership return.

With Collymore even more prolific in front of goal, Forest won eight and drew the other three of their opening eleven fixtures. Nottingham Forest finished the 94-95 season in third place to earn a return to European football.
